Survey on knowledge of NICE guidelines
This survey has been developed in collaboration with medical schools from around the country and with NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) and is being led by Drs’ Monica Lakhanpaul & Jay Banerjee (Senior Lecturer & Honorary Senior Lecturer respectively in the Department of Medical education & Social Care at the University of Leicester), Dr. Nicholas Blackwell, Honorary Lecturer in Medical E-learning, HERADU & Logan Manikam, a final year Leicester Medical School student.
Evidence based clinical guidelines issued by the National Institute for Health & Clinical Excellence (NICE) are aimed to improve and standardise the quality of care delivered in the National Health Service in England and Wales and were established by the Department of Health in 1999.
Students may not be exposed to NICE guidelines in practice until they commence their clinical attachments and they are then expected to make the leap into clinical foundation training where an understanding of evidence based practice and clinical guidelines is an essential element of good clinical care.
As future implementers of these guidelines, we believe that your participation in the survey will help us appreciate students’ knowledge of NICE guidelines which will help direct teaching strategies and aid implementation of guidance.
The survey asks you to complete the following self-administered questionnaire online which will take no more than 15-20 minutes to complete. Please provide a single response to each question and feel free to use the comments box at the end.
Participation is entirely voluntary and you may withdraw at any stage. If you do agree you may proceed onto the next page to begin the questionnaire. This will not affect our relationship with you in any way. There are no known risks to you from this study.
The information we collect will contain demographic information but will not identify you personally. All participant data collected from this survey is anonymised.
For further information about this survey please contact either Dr M Lakhanpaul (ml103@le.ac.uk ) or Dr Jay Banerjee ( jb234@le.ac.uk ). Details of the final results of the study will be obtainable from either of the above.
Completion of the questionnaire implies that you have understood the research we are planning and wish to participate. The University Research Ethics Review Panel of the University of Leicester, University of Leeds and St George’s have reviewed and approved this survey. University of Leeds have provided formal Ethical approval from the Educational Research Ethics committee - schools of medicine and dentistry , a subcommitte of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Research Ethics Committee.
Thank you for your help.
